Michael Z. — Received Seizure Alert Monitor

FUND IT FORWARD received this letter from Michael's mom:

I am writing this letter, in a desperate plea to get an Emfit Seizure Monitor for my 14 year old son, Michael. He has multiple seizure types, including Grand Mals. The night time is the hardest. There are so many nights that a constant vigil is needed. There are times that he has no seizures, and then there are the nights that they don't seem to stop. He is on 2 different seizure medicines and an average seizure is over 10 minutes, even with Diastat.

The seizures started on his third birthday. He was eating his birthday cake, when he started convulsing, and was rushed to the emergency room. At first, he only had a couple of seizures a month. But once he turned 9, they got worse quick. He had a 7 plus hour seizure. Since then, he has lost a lot of his academic abilities, such as reading and math. He is unable to be left alone, and operates at a 7 year old level.

Having this monitor would help Michael and me, his mother, both get a good nights sleep. As a single mother, it is all I can do to work and to take care of Michael and his brother. I am blessed that my own mother watches Michael for me, so that I can work. But,it is expensive to have a child with multiple medical problems. That is why it would be a relief to everyone in my household if he received this monitor.

Michael's other diagnosis are: PDD-NOS (a form of autism), cognitive delay, migraines, and hypothyroidism
